Why Choose Plan Scan?
There are many advantages of Plan Scan technology over traditional lab made crowns.
Time: Plan Scan crowns are made in one visit in our office, saving you considerable time away from work and your family. With a traditional crown, the first visit is preparing the tooth, taking a messy impression, and putting a temporary crown on the tooth until the permanent crown comes back from the lab, typically two weeks later. The technology we have adopted allows us to make a crown on the first visit, eliminating the need for a temporary crown, and reducing the time in the dental chair. And because temporary crowns are not permanently bonded, they are prone to fall off during the waiting period. This can mean an additional emergency appointment to replace the temporary crown, resulting in more time away from the things you would rather be doing.
Comfort: With Plan Scan, a digital impression is taken using a hand held digital camera. This eliminates the gooey, messy impression materials that cause many patients to gag and report discomfort. In addition, eliminating the temporary crown reduces the discomfort of having the temporary removed. Finally, because digital impressions are more accurate than traditional impressions, the designed crown should fit better and require less adjusting than a traditional crown.
Aesthetics and Function: The strong, tooth-colored ceramic materials used restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty, and function and closely match the anatomy of your natural tooth structure. All ceramic crowns do not contain any metals and therefor eliminate the gray discoloration at the gum line that many traditional crowns show over time. In addition, the materials do not cause irritation of the gums that can lead to gum recession around the crown.
Strength: Milled ceramic is stronger than the traditional method of layering porcelain and pressing, so your smile will stay beautiful for years!
The Plan Scan Process
During your appointment, you and your doctor will discuss the details of the procedure and your doctor will answer any questions you may have. Your doctor will remove any decay, preparing the tooth for a digital impression. The digital impression creates a three dimensional image of your tooth. Using Plan Scan proprietary computer aided design (CAD) software, your restoration will be designed according to your tooth's appropriate form and function. Then your digital design will be sent to the mill for the computer-aided manufacture (CAM) of an all-ceramic crown. The state of the art mill uses a diamond bur to carve your restoration out of a solid piece of ceramic. The ceramic is then stained and glazed to create a beautiful aesthetic match to your natural tooth color, and finally it is fired in a kiln to create a strong, long lasting ceramic restoration. The ceramic restoration is bonded to your tooth and you are on your way, all in a single day.
